Making a difference
The Starfish Program
Renewed Materials, LLC, is an active supporter of The Starfish Program, an educational scholarship plan initiated in 2002 in Kampala, Uganda. The main recipients of support are motivated young mothers who have gone through crisis pregnancies and children of Mirembe House who are otherwise unable to attend school. Ninety percent of funds donated go directly to benefit these youth and their educational endeavors. The remaining ten percent of the funds cover administration costs and wiring fees. Volunteers are not compensated and use their own resources to pay for travel and accommodation expenses.
Kiva
Kiva is an organization that allows people to lend money via the Internet to microfinance institutions in developing countries around the world and in the United States, which in turn lend the money to disadvantaged entrepreneurs. By making credit available in a transparent and accountable way, microlending can allow motivated, yet impoverished people to take advantage of economic opportunities to improve their lives and their communities.
Renewed Materials is an active lender in the Kiva community. See how we’re making a difference on our Kiva lender page.

LEED Certification
LEED Category: Materials and Resources (MR)
MR Credit(s) 4.1 and 4.2 Recycled Content: Post-Industrial. At least 91% (ALKEMI-acrylic) and 34% (ALKEMI-polyester), of the weight of the product produced at the above referenced manufacturing facility is post-industrial content (aluminum milling flake, acrylic and solid surface waste), as defined by the Guidelines for the use of Environmental Marketing Claims, 16 CFR 260.7 (e), available at https://www.ftc.gov/bcp/grnrule/guides980427.htm#260.7
ALKEMI-acrylic
ALKEMI-acrylic is a beautiful and sustainable surfacing alternative, made using pre-consumer waste aluminum and copper flake, solid surface scrap, and recycled acrylic.
- SCS certified Containing 84% to 97% recycled content ALKEMI-acrylic contributes toward satisfying credits 4.1 and 4.2 under LEED®.
- No VOC content — EPA approved testing of ALKEMI-acrylic performed by Paradigm Environmental Servicesyielded no significant traces of volatile compounds. Safe for people and friendly to the environment.
ALKEMI-acrylic may be fabricated and installed by qualified solid surface professionals using conventional tools and methods. Versatile and practical, it is the perfect surfacing material alternative for both horizontal and vertical decorative interior surface applications.
Alkemi-Copper
ALKEMI-copper is the brilliant NEW addition to the ALKEMI-acrylic line of recycled surfacing and tabletops. Containing 84% recycled content (highest recycled content surfacing materials in the World), ALKEMI-copper contributes toward satisfying credits 4.1 and 4.2 under LEED.
As with ALKEMI-acrylic, ALKEMI-copper may be fabricated and installed by qualified solid surface professionals using conventional tools and methods.
ALKEMI-Polyester
Award winning ALKEMI-polyester is a recycled surface material composed of post-industrial scrap waste (34% by weight—as certified—or 60% by volume). Made from fine flake aluminum milling scrap—which commonly burns up as a heavy smoke pollutant when exposed to conventional aluminum recycling—ALKEMI-polyester leaves no hazardous footprint.
Available in a variety of designer colors and surface aesthetics as Classic and Honed, ALKEMI-polyester may be fabricated and installed using standard solid surface fabrication methods. Strong, durable and exquisite to the eye, ALKEMI offers a brilliant, sustainable alternative to the stagnant commercial material options, such as solid surface, plastic laminate, stone and glass.
