My Green Mattress was founded on a mother and father’s love for their daughter. “In 2007, my wife asked me to make an organic crib mattress for our infant daughter, Emily, who was suffering with allergies and eczema,” says Tim Masters, the brand’s founder. Their drive to help her led to the creation of an all-natural mattress on which Emily could sleep comfortably and safely. And she showed an immediate positive response. “Soon after, we developed an entire line of organic mattresses to meet the needs of families like ours who were seeking safer, healthy, nontoxic sleep,” he says. Indeed, that one mattress has morphed into a full-blown family-owned and operated factory that has been handcrafting sustainable mattresses in the Midwest since 2007. They are GOTS and GOLS Organic certified, making them one of the most environmentally friendly mattresses on the market. “Our mission,” Masters says, “will always be to bring affordable, healthy, certified organic mattresses to families across America.”

Prioritizing sleep as part of a healthy lifestyle can be challenging, but choosing a healthy and supportive mattress is the first step. Organic mattresses are constructed with natural, healthy materials and eliminate the off-gassing of dangerous chemicals that come from polyurethane foams and flame retardants. Organic cotton, wool, and Latex are breathable and will resist dust mites, mold, and bacteria. A healthy mattress is also constructed to be properly supportive and comfortable enough to relieve pressure points. You should awaken feeling refreshed with no pain or circulation problems.

ORGANIC MATERIALS

COTTON

The cotton used by My Green Mattress is certified organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and handpicked to create a fabric without polyester fibers, chemical flame retardants and pesticides. This certification requires chain of custody and proof of purchase in and out of the factory. No greenwashing here! All this effort is done with the intention to provide a durable and safe mattress that is both comfortable and soft.

WOOL

My Green Mattress uses organic wool also certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard that acts as an all-natural flame retardant. Organic wool is part of the key materials in making My Green Mattress products due to its resistance to mildew, mold and dust mites. It is hypoallergenic, nontoxic, and able to regulate temperature, allowing for a cool night’s sleep.

LATEX

The Dunlop latex in the mattresses is also organic and certified by the Global Organic Latex Standard. This means that the foam is not petrochemical-based and is free of harmful materials. The trees grown for the rubber used in latex have met organic requirements. The whole chain of custody for the materials ensures that what ends up in your mattress is what was tapped in the forest. Not only is organic latex better for the environment by being recyclable, renewable and biodegradable, but it is also breathable and resistant to dust mites, mildew and mold.

Escape to Dreamland – Which Mattress is Right for You?

Tim Masters and the team at My Green Mattress designed the Natural Escape Organic Mattress for all kinds of different sleep styles and body types — perfect for couples. Back sleepers, for instance, need the added lumbar support to keep their hips from dropping as the settle in to sleep. Mattresses often sag in that area after a time, but it’s important to keep the back sleeper’s hips aligned, so as not to stress the muscles in their lower back. The Natural Escape features a lumbar support section that is 5% firmer. That type of added support (only available in the highest-quality mattresses) helps eliminate back pain.

For side sleepers, the Natural Escape’s upgraded innerspring gives added support to keep your hips from dropping and your spine in proper alignment. Meanwhile, 3 inches of conforming latex relieves pressure on your hips and shoulders. This can prevent you from awakening fully as you change positions in the night. For side sleepers that like a plush feel, Masters recommends the 2 inch Organic Latex Topper. Together, they give the pillow-top feel along with proper alignment from the base mattress.

The interactive pocketed-coil innerspring is thoughtfully designed for stomach sleepers, as well. Start with a medium-firm mattress, as you can always add a plush layer with the Organic Latex Topper, to tune in the feel that’s right for you.

If you’re waking at night because your sleeping partner stirs frequently or gets up early (we see you, fur babies!), the pocketed coils will limit that motion transfer. Many adults are opting for an adjustable base, whether  to curb snoring, reduce pressure on your back, improve circulation, or just enjoy reading or watching TV before bed. This mattress works flawlessly with adjustable or flat platforms

The Natural Escape Organic Mattress gives all the benefits of sleeping on organic goodness with no “forever chemicals” or VOCs. And you can count on plenty of support with organic latex comfort, no matter your preferences, personalities, or bedtimes.

SAFETY AND RELIABILITY

My Green Mattress tufts its mattresses by hand, which erases the need for chemical adhesives—a difficult and time-consuming process deemed necessary for the safety of all customers. It makes for a beautiful finish as well! Their premium Natural Escape includes an upgraded innerspring with thick layers of organic latex for extra lumbar support. This relieves pressure points and keeps your hips from dropping and your spine in proper alignment (especially for side and back sleepers). If you tend to sleep on your back or stomach, the latex-free Pure Eco provides a firm sleep thanks to its innerspring and organic cotton batting. Kiwi is a firm mattress with an innerspring and organic latex that comes at the brand’s most affordable price. It’s popular for growing children, and comes in an 8 inch Kiwi Bunk Bed for growing families.

But your mattress isn’t the only thing that can help you have a healthier sleep. In addition to their mattresses, the brand also offers an array of sleep accessories, including the silky soft, 600-thread-count Organic Cotton Sheet Set, the nontoxic My Green Platform Bed made from untreated Poplar wood, a waterproof Organic Cotton Protector that acts as a barrier against dust mites and other allergens you don’t want in bed with you, and an Organic Latex Topper, which makes any mattress plush. And, of course, there’s the mattress that started it all: the Emily Organic Crib Mattress, with the same GOTS and GOLS organic certifications as the adult mattresses to make sure your baby gets a healthy sleep as well.

Tour and testimonial

My Green Mattress welcomed Elemental Green to tour the factory in Illinois, where we saw true craftspeople at work. My Green Mattresses are constructed with great care in a certified organic factory in Illinois, from organically grown harvested and processed materials. The company undergoes third-party verification of their supply chain, processing, and storage to ensure that the factory is producing enviromentally and socially responsible products. The overall factory certification proves that the health of workers and customers comes first.  You’ll find no formaldehyde, flame retardants, or VOCs emitted from materials like polyester and polyurethane foams in the end product. “After touring the factory and seeing the personal care each person gives the product, you wonder why it doesn’t cost more,” said EG Publisher Sheridan Foster.

Tim Masters also offered a mattress for a 120-night home test drive, well… sleep. As recommended for side sleepers, we chose the the Natural Escape certified organic hybrid with the Organic Latex Topper.

The Natural Escape is oh, so comfortable! There’s no chemical smell, even right out of the box. And the firm support with the plush topper eliminated the back pain and hip pressure-point pain that we’d been experiencing with our former memory foam mattress. Let’s cut to the chase: sleeping on this mattress is a literal dream.
