Boral Roofing Clay and Concrete Roof Tiles Offer Sustainable Solutions without Compromising Aesthetics, Performance or Cost

Clay Roof Tile Products Sustainable Attributes

Made from the earth, Boral Roofing Clay Roof Tile products are all natural, 100% recyclable, with a recycled material content of up to 59%, minimizing the environmental footprint and maximizing LEED credits. Their raw materials are sourced locally, ensuring minimal transportation footprints as well. In fact, in 2008 Boral Roofing used over 48 million tons of recycled materials in their roofing products. That is equal to the energy used by 84,000 homes or the annual emissions from 108,000 cars.

Their Cool Roof compliant colors are made from the same, kiln-fired natural materials and do not compromise on superior aesthetics, performance or cost. In fact, all of Boral Roofing’s environmentally conscious products are standard and do not have any cost premiums associated with them.

Concrete Roof Tile Products Sustainable Attributes

Innovative tile computer modeling and engineering design tools allow Boral to minimize the use of raw materials while not compromising the long-term performance of the roof. Their tile is specifically engineered to allow greater airflow between the tile and the roof deck – creating a more energy efficient roof system.

Boral Roofing products have a high thermal mass that helps reduce peak energy demand, maintaining the comfort level in living spaces. Using concrete roof tile reduces the transfer of heat into the attic space by 70 percent compared to other roofing materials, such as asphalt shingles.

Throughout a 50-year service life, a tile roof can reabsorb up to 20 percent of the CO2 emitted during the manufacture of the cement content.* If concrete tile ever needs to be replaced, it can be recycled. By contrast, over 11 million tons of asphalt shingle waste is generated annually in the U.S. Reroofing jobs account for 10 million tons with another 1 million from manufacturing scrap.**
