You’ve seen photos of Earthships and like the idea of living off the grid, but how do they really work? Today we’re sharing a great (and very detailed) tour of an Earthship in Taos, NM. The reason it’s so very detailed is that this particular Earthship is available to rent, so the video is a how-to guide for potential temporary residents.
According to the airbnb listing:
This house is called an Earthship, a totally off-grid house that catches its own rainwater, generates its own electricity and stays at a steady 72 degrees all year round without the use of any fuel or electricity what-so-ever!
Don’t let the term “Off Grid” fool you, this house has all the modern amenities. WiFi, Netflix with a flat screen tv and Bluray player, large refrigerator, large oven/range with a powerful exhaust hood, large bathroom with a luxuriously deep tub and stone all around. There is even a high-efficiency washing machine in case you need to do laundry.
The sun heats the house passively, but don’t worry, you can still sleep in after a late light with black-out shades that let you control when the sun illuminates this beautiful space.

Since the video was taken literally minutes after they finished construction, take some time to peruse the photos of the fully furnished and completed space.
