Wood flooring is the most abundantly renewable flooring material available. Sustainable forest management makes it possible to harvest wood without any serious impact on the environment, because trees are a renewable resource that can be regrown time and time again. In fact, with sustainable forestry practices in place, for every 1 cubic ft. of trees harvested, 1.66 cubit ft. are regrown. And, because hardwood flooring can last hundreds of years, wood floors conserve materials for maintenance and replacement as compared to less durable options. Hardwood flooring is healthy, too — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency lists hardwood flooring as a contributing factor to healthy indoor air quality, especially when compared to carpeting.

While wood floors can be eco-friendly and healthy, common straight-edge hardwood flooring often produces wood waste from cutting down the boards to uniform sizes and shapes. With Bolefloor naturally curved hardwood flooring, this waste is almost completely eliminated — and the resultant curved-edge flooring is exceptionally beautiful.

Bolefloor: Floors As Nature Intended

It wasn’t nature that created straight floorboards, it was the limitations of technology. Bolefloor allows a return to a natural state — floors as nature intended.

Bolefloor is the world’s first manufactured naturally curved hardwood flooring that follow a tree’s natural growth. The LiveEdge technology allows to preserve the natural curves of the wood, thus minimizing waste and giving a unique look to every floor. Bolefloor takes it’s name from the old English word “bole”, the trunk of a tree. The floors are manufactured in limited editions and are always tailor made.

More Floors Per Forest

Bolefloor’s optimization technology means saving natural resources. Not only is the surface aesthetically appealing, but Bolefloor’s innovations allows more floors per forest.

Bolefloor is tailor-made according to a customer’s specific room measurements, practically removing any waste that would be generated — like wood waste from cutting down boards for traditional straight-line wood floor installations. This translates to more floors per forest since the wood’s natural size and shape are preserved rather than cutting a small piece of straight board out of a larger piece of wood. Compared with traditional milling processes, the curved edges allow 20% more of each sawed plank to be used.

Unique in Every Sense

Bolefloor curved flooring meets the true definition of unique – each floorboard is as individual as the tree it came from. No two Bolefloors are alike.

Bolefloor offers a design solution for most any locations: residences, commercial spaces or retail environments. The floors work in any setting where intimate, natural, and individual interiors are desired. But there’s no law a Bolefloor has to be a floor — the technology has been used to create tabletops, walls, and even ceilings. Let your imagination be the limit!

Naturally Curved Hardwood Flooring Technology

Technology in the Name of Nature

Bolefloor technology combines wood scanning systems, tailor-made CAD/CAM developments and innovative optimization algorithms for placement software developed by a Finnish engineering automation company and three software companies in cooperation with the Institute of Cybernetics at Tallinn University of Technology. Bolefloor scanners’ natural-edge visual identification technology evaluates “imperfections” such as knots and sapwood near the edges or ends so that floors are both beautiful and durable. The process manages and tracks each board from its raw-lumber stage through final installation, and every board is cut using advanced woodworking machinery. Bolefloor technology makes natural curved-length flooring available at a price not considerably more than today’s other fine wood flooring options.
